Hôtel de Bourgtheroulde (Autograph Collection)
Rouen hotel for the Armada

A Renaissance landmark in the heart of Rouen
Built between 1486 and 1531 for Guillaume Le Roux, lord of Bourgtheroulde, this flamboyant mansion has been a listed historic monument since 1924. Its famous Galerie d'Aumale is covered in bas-reliefs depicting the Field of the Cloth of Gold — the 1520 meeting of Francis I and Henry VIII — and scenes from Petrarch's Triumphs. The building survived the 1944 bombings and was painstakingly restored before opening as Rouen's only five-star hotel (Marriott Autograph Collection).

What makes it special
The hotel sits on Place de la Pucelle — the square named after Joan of Arc, a two-minute walk from the Gros-Horloge and the cathedral. The spa is set in the historic vaulted cellars, and the inner courtyard (open to guests) is one of the finest Renaissance courtyards in Normandy. Rooms blend period stone walls with contemporary design; upper floors offer rooftop views over the old town's spires.
Location & the Armada 2027
Place de la Pucelle is about a 12-minute walk from the Armada quays — close enough to stroll to the ships, far enough to sleep through the fireworks if you choose. During the Armada 2027 (17–27 June), this is one of the most sought-after addresses in Rouen: book as early as possible — rooms sell out a year ahead.
