This corsair frigate wasn't built for the sea — she was built for the camera. She's been stealing scenes ever since.
In 1996, a British network commissioned an 18th-century frigate replica in Turkey for its series Hornblower. Named Grand Turk, the 46-metre three-master played HMS Indefatigable — then stood in for Nelson's HMS Victory at the Trafalgar bicentenary in 2005.
Bought in 2010 by a Saint-Malo shipowner and renamed Étoile du Roy, she became cinema's favourite floating set: The Three Musketeers, Napoleon, The Count of Monte-Cristo, La Fortuna… She is also France's second-largest traditional ship.
Étoile du Roy is among the first confirmed ships for the Armada de Rouen 2027 (17–27 June, free quays). Full profile: Étoile du Roy.
