Called “the most beautiful ruin in France”, Jumièges rises above a quiet bend of the Seine — and it's a front-row seat for the Armada's Grande Parade.
The romantic ruins of this 7th-century Benedictine abbey, with their soaring white twin towers, draw visitors and painters alike — Victor Hugo famously admired them. Set in green parkland on a loop of the Seine just 30–40 minutes downstream of Rouen, it's a peaceful, atmospheric half-day, far from the festival crowds.
Here's the bonus: Jumièges sits right on the route of the closing-day Grande Parade, when the whole fleet sails downstream to the sea. Few places combine such a beautiful backdrop with such a grandstand view — see our viewpoints guide to plan it.
Jumièges is easiest by car — around 30–40 minutes from Rouen through the Seine-side villages. It pairs naturally with other downstream stops along the river.
