Getting around the site

The good news: the Seine quays are largely flat and paved, so the main festival route is broadly manageable. The old town, by contrast, has cobbled streets that can be bumpy and tiring — take it slowly and pick your routes.

Crowds & timing

• The event gets very busy at weekends, midday and on parade day. Aim for a weekday morning for the most space — see when to go.
• For the Grande Parade, choose a viewpoint you can reach and leave easily, and arrive early.

• Boarding ships often involves steep gangways and high sills — access varies by vessel and may be limited.
• Rouen has a modern metro and bus network; plan step-free routes in advance.
