Practical Guide
The Armada with a dog.
Thinking of bringing your four-legged friend? Here's an honest look at what works — and what to watch out for.
Can you bring a dog?
The Armada is an open-air event along public quays, and well-behaved dogs on a lead are generally welcome in the outdoor areas. That said, it's a huge, crowded event — so a bit of planning makes all the difference for your dog's comfort and safety.
Things to keep in mind
- Boarding the ships usually isn't dog-friendly (steep gangways, tight decks) — someone may need to wait with your dog.
- Crowds & heat peak at weekends and midday — visit on a weekday morning for a calmer experience.
- Fireworks & concerts are loud — many dogs find them stressful. Plan to be away from the quays in the evening.
- Bring water, a bowl and waste bags, and keep your dog leashed in the throng.
Dog-friendly stays
Several Rouen hotels welcome pets (a number of the larger chains do) — check the policy when you book. See our hotels guide, and consider an apartment for more space.
