The Armada's evening programme has always been a key part of the experience. In 2023, over 1.5 million people stayed on the quays past nightfall for concerts and fireworks. For 2027, the organisers have doubled down on the night-time offer — with 1,000 drones per night, a newly choreographed sound-and-light show, and a bigger concert programme than ever before.
Here's what you can expect, hour by hour, as the sun goes down on the Seine.
🌆 Sunset on the quays (20:30–22:00)
In June, the sun sets over Rouen around 22:00. The hour before dusk is arguably the most photogenic moment of the day — the low golden light catches the rigging of the tall ships, the cathedral's facade turns amber, and the crowds thin out slightly as families with young children head home.
This is the moment to grab a drink at one of the quayside bars, find your spot for the evening, and watch the masts turn from gold to silhouette. The best places to be:
- Pont Boieldieu — centre view, midway between the two main concert stages
- Left bank near the Viking village — quieter, with the fleet reflected in the water
- Quai de la Bourse — front-row view of the drone-launch area

🎶 Concert time (22:00–23:00)
The Armada's main concerts take place on two stages: the Scène de la Région on the right bank (Quai Jean-Moulin) and a second stage on the left bank near the Stade Robert-Diochon. In 2023, headliners included names like Mika, Patrick Bruel, and Zazie. The 2027 line-up has not been announced yet — as we covered in our concerts guide, the organisers are still finalising funding — but the budget for the musical programme is expected to be around €2.3 million.
A few practical things to know:
- Concerts are free in previous editions — but for 2027, a paid ticketing system (up to €15) is under discussion for some evenings.
- 21 June — Fête de la Musique — will remain free regardless.
- Arrive early (before 21:00) if you want a spot near the stage. The quays fill up fast.
- Sound systems have been upgraded for 2027, with new speaker towers along the quays to improve audio coverage.

🚁 The drone & fireworks show (23:00–23:30)
This is the headline act of every Armada night. At around 23:00, the quays fall quiet, the lights dim, and the sky over the Seine becomes the stage.
Fireworks have been a tradition since the first Armada in 1989 — launched from barges on the river, timed to music, visible from every point along the quays. The 2027 edition will keep the pyrotechnics but add a major new element: 1,000 drones flying in coordinated formations above the river, with new choreography every single night.

Once the fireworks fade and the drones land, the Armada enters its late-night phase — and this is where the character of the festival shifts. This is the best time to walk the quays without the daytime crush. - Pont Gustave-Flaubert — the highest bridge in Rouen, offering a panoramic view of the entire illuminated fleet from above.
- Quai de la Bourse facing south — the cathedral framed behind the ship masts, with the drone show overhead.
- Left bank, between Pont Boieldieu and Pont Jeanne-d'Arc — reflections of the illuminated ships in the water, with no crowd in the frame.
