Camping

Camping near Rouen.

The complete guide to camping and campervans for the Armada — the best sites, prices, and how to get into town.

Find campsites near Rouen

Camping is THE budget solution for the Armada. While Rouen hotels sell out and prices soar, campsites within a 30-minute drive offer spacious pitches, family-friendly facilities and rates that stay reasonable. For campervan and van-life travellers, several motorhome stopover areas sit just steps from the action.

Book several months in advance. The campsites around Rouen are small and they fill up as soon as the Armada dates are confirmed. If you are planning a family stay, reserve your pitch as soon as your dates are set. The same goes for motorhome areas — spaces are limited.

Why Jumièges is the ideal spot

The villages of Jumièges and Mesnil-sous-Jumièges, about 25 minutes west of Rouen along the Seine, concentrate the best campsites. You'll find three well-rated campsites within walking distance of each other, a magnificent ruined abbey to visit, and — on the closing Sunday of the Armada — a front-row seat for the Grande Parade, since the fleet sails down the Seine towards the sea right in front of you.

What you need to know before you go

  • Book early. Campsites within 25 km of Rouen fill up 3-4 months before the Armada. The Jumièges trio (du Lac, de la Forêt, de la Seine) is the first to sell out.
  • Pack earplugs if you're near the quays. The Armada is loud — concerts run late, and the ships' horns are part of the experience.
  • Prepare for June weather. Normandy in June averages 18-22°C, with possible showers. A waterproof layer and a good sleeping bag are recommended.
  • Plan your shopping. Most campsites offer a bread delivery service in high season. For full groceries, the Carrefour or Leclerc hypermarkets on Rouen's ring road are open late.
  • Check if the campsite accepts the ACSI Card. Several sites near Rouen offer reduced rates with this card — but during the Armada, normal rates apply.
