Every Thursday in July, Rouen's most beautiful squares fill with live music — from indie rock and electro to reggae, swing and Brazilian rhythms. All free, all outdoors, and the final night is coming up on 23 July.
Les Terrasses du Jeudi — "Thursday Terraces" — is one of Rouen's best-loved summer traditions. For four consecutive Thursdays in July, the city transforms its squares, streets and quays into open-air concert venues, with an eclectic line-up of local, national and international artists. And it's all 100% free.
This year's edition runs on 2, 9, 16 and 23 July 2026. The third night was yesterday (Thursday 16 July), which means there's just one more chance to catch the party: the grand finale on 23 July.
First launched in 1996, the Terrasses du Jeudi have become a staple of Rouen's summer calendar. Each Thursday evening, multiple stages pop up across the city centre — around Place de la Cathédrale, Place de la Pucelle, Place Saint-Marc, Rue Eau-de-Robec, Place du Chêne Rouge, Place de la Calende and more — hosting back-to-back sets from around 18:00 until late.
Genres span the map: indie pop, rock, electro, hip-hop, chanson, jazz, world music, swing, reggae and even brass bands. The programming is famously eclectic — you might catch an Australian dance-punk band followed by a local folk singer, then a Brazilian percussion ensemble.

Nearly 50 acts across four nights. Here are the stand-outs from each date:
One of the best things about the Terrasses du Jeudi is the format. Stages are just a few minutes' walk apart in the pedestrian-friendly city centre. You can spend the evening hopping between squares, catching 30–45 minutes of each act, grabbing a drink at a pavement terrace, and moving on when something else catches your ear.
Here's a suggested route for the final night:
Total walking distance: less than 1 km. You'll see the cathedral lit up along the way.
Each square has a temporary bar run by local associations. Expect beer, wine, soft drinks and cider — prices are very reasonable (3–5 EUR for a drink). Food trucks and nearby restaurants are also an option.
Bring a picnic blanket or scarf to sit on the cobblestones. Some squares have a few terrace tables from neighbouring cafes, but they fill up fast.
Portable toilets are set up near each stage. The city also keeps some public toilets open late.
The show goes on even in light rain. In case of storms, some stages may cancel — check the official site for updates.
From the Rouen Rive Droite train station, it's a 10-minute walk to Place de la Cathédrale. From the left bank, cross Pont Boïeldieu or Pont Jeanne-d'Arc.
Best bet: Parking Palais de Justice (underground, central), Parking Cathedrale or Parking Hotel de Ville. All are within a 5-minute walk of the stages.
The city centre streets are pedestrianised for the event, so driving between venues is not practical — and not necessary.
The Terrasses du Jeudi are the quintessential Rouen summer experience. They're free, they're central, and the atmosphere is genuinely convivial — locals of all ages, families with picnic baskets, friends grabbing after-work drinks, all gathered around music that ranges from the familiar to the surprising.
For tourists planning ahead for the Armada 2027 (17–27 June), think of the Terrasses du Jeudi as a warm-up — a chance to experience Rouen's quays, squares and nightlife in summer mode, with the same easy-going energy the Armada brings tenfold.
