🎨 What Is Un Été au Musée?
Every summer, the Réunion des Musées Métropolitains Rouen Normandie (RMM) transforms its network of museums into a sprawling, family-friendly festival of culture. Un Été au Musée (A Summer at the Museum) runs from July through August 2026, offering more than 70 free or low-cost events — workshops, guided visits, yoga sessions, storytelling, treasure hunts, and hands-on scientific activities.
The programme is designed for everyone: families with young children, solo travellers, couples, and seniors. Most activities are free of charge, and Rouen's municipal museums have offered free access to their permanent collections since 2008 — a rarity in France. The temporary exhibitions and special workshops require a small fee, but even those are remarkably affordable (typically 5–15 €).
With the Armada de Rouen still a year away (17–27 June 2027), this summer is the perfect time to discover Rouen's cultural scene without the crowds. Here is every museum participating and what you can do there.

🖼️ Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen
The crown jewel of Rouen's museum network, the Musée des Beaux-Arts houses one of France's finest provincial art collections — works by Caravaggio, Poussin, Rubens, Velázquez, Modigliani, Monet, and the Rouen School of Post-Impressionists. Its permanent collections are free every day.
Star attraction this summer: Sous la Pluie, peindre, vivre et rêver — the major 2026 exhibition that brings together 150 works about rain, from Caillebotte's Rue de Paris, temps de pluie to Doisneau's cellist-in-the-rain photograph. Runs until 20 September 2026 (9 € full price, free for under-26s).
